Oct. 8
   FBI takes over investigation into Florida anthrax death.
   Region: Memorial service held for FDNY firefighter Don Regan at Church of the Infant Savior in Pine Bush.
Oct. 9
   FBI agents in biohazard suits swarm AMI building. Employees and visitors advised to be tested. In New York, skin biopsy is performed on NBC employee.
   Region: Rep. Maurice Hinchey asks Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge to improve security at New York reservoirs.
Oct. 10
   FBI investigators spend third day collecting evidence in AMI offices as fear of bioterrorism shakes America.
Region: Brian Lynch, 27-year-old father of two, accused by state police of claiming he lost job in World Trade Center attacks and then collecting money from American Red Cross. Memorial service for FDNY firefighter Stephen G. Harrell held at Warwick Valley Winery.

Oct. 11
   Third person employed by AMI tests positive for anthrax; officials say anthrax probe now criminal investigation. President Bush attends a memorial service at Pentagon.
Region: Pine Bush High School students speak of tolerance, despair and strength during program aimed at stopping anti-Muslim prejudice.



Oct. 12

   Giuliani announces that NBC News employee tested positive for anthrax.
Region: Schoolchildren across mid-Hudson participate in Pledge Across America.



Oct. 13

   Al-Qaida spokesman Sulaiman Bu Ghaith warns Americans and Britons "not to ride planes or live in high buildings." Five more employees of AMI test positive for anthrax. Second NBC staffer reports possible symptoms.
Region: Warwick police station and Town Hall closed after couple bring in suspicious envelope containing white powder. Memorial service for FDNY firefighter Kenneth Kumpel held at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Memorial service for Bernard Favuzza held in Suffern.



Oct. 14

   Three new cases of anthrax reported in New York City – a police officer and two lab technicians.
Region: Police block roads in Town of Wawayanda after two people report finding white powder in newspaper. Services held for FDNY firefighter Ronnie Henderson at Church of God by Faith in Newburgh. Bioterrorism bill debated in Albany.
Oct. 15
   U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle talks to reporters after envelope containing powder believed to be anthrax is opened in his office. Daschle staffers treated with antibiotics. Small amount of anthrax found in mail-sorting plant in Boca Raton. Suspicious letters and powders reported at Microsoft offices in Reno, Nev., and in several countries including Canada, Australia, France and Germany.
Region: Students at South Junior High School in Newburgh scrubbed down after powder found on bus. Memorial service held for FDNY firefighter Glenn C. Perry at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville.

Oct. 16
   The 7-month-old son of ABC producer tests positive for anthrax exposure after visiting building three weeks earlier. Microsoft's Bill Gates says software giant boosting security after six employees exposed to letter that tested positive for anthrax. U.S. military drops nearly a half million leaflets in Afghanistan to say United States is not enemy.
Region: Memorial Mass for FDNY firefighter Kenneth Marino held at St. Anthony's Church in Oceanside. Anthrax scare at U.S. Military Academy after white powder found in newspaper. Gov. Pataki authorizes rehiring of retired state troopers.
